Artist Yu Hsing-Shan’s main creative medium is oil; she is adept at blending, glazing, and scumbling the oil paint to create artistic realms full of poetic beauty. Her “Floating” series has been developing since 2015. Through layers of metonymic abstract painting techniques, the paintings express a state of floating in mid-air, in a kind of spiritual realm where viewers can set their imaginations free, without limitations. Her work Starlight belongs to the “Floating” series. Yu Hsing-Shan twists, cuts, and reorganizes enlarged plant forms, adds her own experiences and feelings, and finds a balance between rationality and sensibility in order to structure a visual expression between representation and abstraction. The white spots that Yu Hsing-Shan specially added in the dark areas represent starlight; these draw the viewer’s focus. The viewer can easily sense the energy in the composition and the flow of colors.
