作品賞析
Artist Yang Zong-Jia’s Rainbow Bear I is a sculpture in the form of a teddy bear with a baby’s face. Its gender is undefined. If you look carefully, there is actually a little crying boy hidden inside the teddy bear’s body. The artist hopes to convey the idea that “human gender consciousness is actually influenced by the environment in which we grow up.” He first twisted many Japanese porcelain clays of different colors, then stretched them into various shapes and fired them, giving his work a colorful outer surface with special textures. This colorful exterior appearance implies that human beings are imprinted with gender stereotypes, social ideologies, and other concepts as they grow up. Under the oppression of these old concepts, the boy can only hide in the teddy bear and cry secretly. Yang Zong-Jia integrates his own experiences into his creations and explains that his voice is that of a generation sandwiched between old and new ideas.
