作品賞析
Every winter, the western half of Taiwan suffers from severe air pollution. The smog acts like one of the favorite filters that people use when taking photos—it makes the whole world look hazy. This inspired the artist Tsai Shang-Kuan to create his “Toxic Filter” series. In his creations, he often retains parts of the landscape to convey the results of the interaction between people and the environment. In addition, an exclusive set of tones will be prepared for each of his series, so that the resulting works of each will have similar colors. Toxic Filter–4 depicts the scene of migratory birds in Aogu Wetlands in Dongshi Township, Chiayi County. This was once an area of reclaimed land that has since been abandoned due to seawater intrusion, and now it is a place for migratory birds to spend the winter. Tsai used dark gray tones to show the effect of severe haze and deliberately adjusted the depth of field to highlight the migratory birds in the foreground before a slightly distorted and blurred background.
