作品賞析
Perhaps because his father runs a model shop, artist Hsu Chih-Wei’s works always revolve around the anime characters and model figures he grew up with. He carefully creates story situations for his characters and lets them participate in the performance. Hsu thinks that acrylic paints, rather than oil paints, have special fluorescent qualities that are better at capturing the bright colors of model toys. He gently brings his models to life with delicate brushstrokes. The main subject of this work is a naked figure with a bear mask lying alone on a pile of model parts. Its body proportions are slightly inconsistent, and it lacks identifiable gender characteristics, but it raises its hands as if to ask for a hug from the viewer. We cannot help but wonder what kind of person is hidden under the mask. Is it the artist’s self-projection, or is there a soul there that can think independently, waiting for a kind of redemption, or waiting for us to awaken its memory?
