作品賞析
Artist Yu Pei-Lun, who uses music, literature, and nature as sources of inspiration, wrote this passage about her work Walk Slowly: “We were coming ashore from the sea, moving slowly at a speed of 25 km/hr, and a humpback whale guided me. He said: ‘When you’re scared or lonely, remember to take a deep breath. When you breathe, you’ll feel my breath. Don’t rush, walk slowly, it’s faster . . .” In the center of the painting is a road leading to nowhere. The tail of a humpback whale is painted on the road, and among the lush trees on both sides, there is a sign setting the speed limit at 25 km/hr. She depicted the glare of the sunlight with backlighting, which makes the scenery in the distance seem blurry, and the overall image conveys a sense of calm. The humpback whale not only represents the artist herself but also serves as a metaphor for everyone. The speed limit sign is also a metaphor for her desire to move ahead slowly when in nature.
