作品賞析
Lee Li-chung, an artist who loves raising pigeons, tries to use pigeons as metaphors in contemporary art creation. Night Flight comes from another of his works, The Memo of Formosa Air Battle which tells about an air battle that took place in October 1944. He fabricated a story about the Japanese army attempting to use military pigeons to perform missions at night, then re-interpreted the story by shooting images of the pigeons he was raising and recording an emotional voice-over narration. Lee had to repeatedly train and practice with his pigeons in order to shoot the images of them flying at night. He also deliberately transformed an idea from the book Night Flight by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who is best known as the author of The Little Prince, by converting the story about a pilot flying an airplane at night to that of pigeons facing the unknown of flying alone at night, breaking through their own fears through constant self-dialogue, and expressing their inner struggles and uneasiness in life.
