The artist Wang Yu-Cyuan’s Narcissus has the delicacy of meticulous realism and the refined charm of literati painting, with elegant and fresh colors. She uses the “scattered point perspective” of Chinese ink painting to build the spatial sense in this work, so that it can be freely appreciated from various angles. The narcissus presents a natural swaying posture, while the rock textures are expressed with staggered long and short brushstrokes. The detailed contrast between light and dark areas strengthens the sense of volume in the rocks. To bring out the ink layers, she not only painted the main parts of the rocks and narcissus from the front, but also blended the gray tones of the background from the back of the silk, thus enhancing the artistic conception of the whole. She deliberately uses the composition and layout of the “cut scene” in Western paintings to bring focus on the picture, and she uses the frame instead of the traditional scroll, trying to reinterpret classics from a contemporary perspective.
