作品賞析
Artist Li Cheng-Liang’s works often center around objects taken from everyday life, which he uses to ponder our daily situations and exploring the relationship between artistic creation and life. This sculpture, Green Gorilla, uses part of a wooden bench as its base and wood pieces for the gorilla’s limbs, but the head is equipped with an electrical meter, so that it looks somewhat like a Frankenstein monster, with cyberpunk elements. Since the 1980s, the continuous, vigorous development of information technology has dominated human life, so the artist questions this phenomenon through his works. The close integration of the gorilla’s head with the electrical meter suggests the habit of people nowadays who seem “unable to leave the mobile phone.” Such thoughts lie deeply hidden behind the gorilla’s deep eyes, made with screws. In addition, Li Chang-Liang deliberately retains the bench’s function, using it to pursue the connection between the act of creation and an object from daily life and cross the barrier between art and design—it is a means of following his own creative motifs.
