The Ｍechanics of the Story

The artist Sun Chih Hsing adapted his animation work Crash into The Mechanics of the Story, a digital print. He uses childishly naive lines and plain black and white to show simplicity. In this work, there is a traffic accident scene, a racing flag, an airplane in flight, and moments when objects fall like dominoes. Through the images conveying a sense of speed, he evokes the viewer’s somatosensory memories of “impact.” These scenes contrast against the static ones, such as the empty bathroom and empty outdoor space. Sun Chih Hsing broke the narrative rhythm and timeline of his animation, extracted elements from it, and reconstructed it in a “synchronous” world on a static plane. He hopes that viewers can find the connections among the images in the paintings through their own perspectives. They can become the screenwriters and piece the images together to form their own stories.
