作品賞析
For the artist Yeh Meng-Hsin, the unique gray, misty atmosphere of rainy days represents “the confusion of human life.” In On the Way Home, she mixed ground coffee, carbon powder, and so on into dyes, which she poured on the canvas to form a rainy day scene, in which raindrops affect visibility on the street, and the bustling crowd can only vaguely be seen. In the crowd, the only figure that can be seen clearly is an antelope wearing a suit and leather shoes—or is it a man wearing an antelope mask? Yeh Meng-Hsin uses the antelope-man as a metaphor for the nine-to-five office worker. However, given the pressures of surviving modern life, even a seemingly regular, stable one, there will always be moments of fear and confusion about the future, no matter how courageous a person might be. Yeh used crumpled plastic wrap to create broken, irregular textures that echo this confusion. She also used paper tape to create blank spots in the composition that imply that the weather will clear after the rain, and sunlight will return.
