The artist Liang Denghao is adept with ballpoint pens and technical pens and draws the future world as he envisions it after its endless exploitation by human beings. In Apocalypse, he uses complex, delicate lines to construct the composition. Taiwan’s endemic animals, such as the muntjac, feature prominently, and high-rise buildings that symbolize civilization and development are surrounded by meandering rivers and animals, implying that civilization is occupying nature’s land. The sad-eyed animals and the bleached coral occupying one corner of the picture tell the sad fate of the animals and plants that are sacrificed for living space and overdevelopment. In the background, horizontal gradations of color show that the time is dusk—it is the twilight of the world, and everything is about to fade. If the destruction of nature continues, people will eventually face an ecological catastrophe and enter the world prophesied by this Apocalypse.
