The seemingly “unbeautiful” parts of the human body are exactly where the artist Wei Chen-Hong explores and expresses emotions. He believes that changes in texture and color are like undulating landscapes. In These People, Those Things, Wei used dark and light colors to depict the man’s solid muscle lines from neck to chest, highlighting the masculine features. The man’s arms are folded over his chest, and his bold sitting posture shows fearless confidence. The woman with red nail polish on her toes has her legs crossed, her upper body leans on a tall chair, in a rather charming posture, and the strong shadows around her eyes bring out her high cheekbones. The woman in a red dress has her face turned a bit to the side, and her knees are pressed together, revealing a reserved personality. Wei Chen-Hong uses contrasting shades to depict muscle lines, facial features, and the luster of human skin. Simple but delicate brushstrokes make the figures in the painting come to life and convey their stories.
