Landscapes are the main subject in Huang Pin-Ling’s creations. Her Rainy Night shows a nighttime downpour, and the entire painting has clear lines and strong color contrasts. Using the unique properties of oil paint, she expresses the humidity of the air and the appearance of the rain, so that one can infer the sound and the feeling of what it would be like in such a scene. The dark rain marks in the top half are composed of clean lines executed at one go, which implies the continuousness of the rain and the mood. For the churning white water below, thick, slow impasto brush strokes create a flowing effect. For Huang Pin-Ling, art is a vehicle for conveying herself and carry on a dialogue with herself, but at the same time, she can use her art to inspire the imagination of viewers and to resonate with them.
