Mon miroir, ta fenêtre n°1 was inspired by the moment one night when the artist Chang Kai-Chun turned off his computer screen: he saw his own reflection from the dark screen, but when he turned the computer on again, it became the usual gateway to places around the world. Most of the painting is a rectangle with a gradual change of greenish hue, dark at the very top, then lighter in the top half, and darker again, even black, at the bottom. Distance is undefined. The red and white border elements bring out a sense of solemn ceremony, the red suggesting a rising curtain above and carpet below. Chang Kai-Chun studied ink painting and calligraphy for a long time, and even though he switched to acrylic as his creative medium, one can still see the influence of Chinese ink painting on him. From the Chinese tradition he borrowed blank space and atmosphere, and the gradual color gradation relates to ink wash. He uses the thickness of the acrylic paint to present a sense of space on the plane.
