The artist Yin Hsin-Fang found how to let go of her family’s expectations for her and fully accept her true self through her artistic creations. Sit Back and Watch the Clouds Arise—3 is composed predominantly of blues and greens, though there are wisps of red-orange pigments in the background—a combination reminiscent of the colored clouds at sunrise or sunset. The composition reflects its creator’s rationality and sensibility. She uses strokes of the character hsin in her name as an element, but each stroke is transformed into lines and color blocks, which symbolize reason and pattern, thus forming a chair in the clouds. Pink lines next to the chair look like the feet of a girl who sits on the chair and happily lets them swing back and forth. However, the ethereal clouds and mists reflect the creator’s sensibility. They contrast with the rationality of the objects in the foreground. The artist, who is not good at expressing herself with words, uses these unique and bold techniques instead. Although she chooses Western oil techniques, she uses Eastern thought as her reference and regards art and life as a process of epiphany and awakening while she finds a way forward for her soul.
