Artist Chen Wen-Fu usually draws inspiration from his surroundings, and in Here Comes Good Fortune, he uses watercolor to capture the moment when the sun shines on the relief carvings on temple walls. The male and female tigers in the relief symbolize the harmony of yin and yang, while the bats at the four corners represent auspicious fortune, and the green leaves and grass sprouting from the gap between the bricks and tiles show abundant vitality. Chen Wen-Fu uses delicate, skillful brushstrokes to show realistically the contrast between light and shadow and accurately present the shape, color, and texture of the subject. He makes it vividly present. Although he was 48 years old before he started using watercolor, his natural talent and arduous practice have made it possible now for him to successfully convey the vitality of Taiwan’s culture. He has also won a Bronze Award in the Salon des artistes français.
