Life experience and the intuition of images constitute the main axis of most of Chang Wen-Ching’s creations. The chimney in her Disturbance in the Silent Night is something that she sees every day, but on one sleepless night she felt that the chimney was giving her a pulsing sensation, so she started work on her creation. The color and brightness of the chimney and white smoke break the tranquility of the dark night and create a strong contrast with the rest of the space. The viewer’s line of sight will naturally focus first on the red chimney and white smoke, but curiosity will drive the viewer’s gaze elsewhere, toward the dark sky. Here, between the loneliness and the disturbance, the artist has truly projected the dialogue between herself and inanimate things.
