作品賞析
The artist Lin Yu-Nung often takes his camera on his walks along the Yilan coast. When it is elver-catching season, he starts taking photos of the eel farmers’ huts. The photos in Gallery of Eel Farmers’ Workshops are collected from several years of taking these photos. During the elver-catching season, workers will use simple metal frames and sail cloth, boards, or other materials ready at hand for the remainder, and they will live, work, and rest in these structures during the season. They may be similar to one another, but due to the different construction materials they use, each one is completely unique. Lin Yu-Nung used black and white photography, avoided the eelers and crowds on the beaches, and concentrated only on the huts, which reflect the culture of the eel industry along the Yilan coast. No figure appears. Just the huts alone are enough to express the eel industry, the eelers, and their labor.
