The artist Wang Sheng-Wen’s photographic series, “X-Y Building Façade,” takes contemporary architecture in Taiwan as its object. Through photography and image post-production, he attempts to integrate the various possibilities of viewing buildings in a single flat image, while leaving plenty of room for the imagination of viewers. The building in Op. 2, No. 3 is Kaohsiung National Stadium, the roof of which is shaped like a saddle and has a spiral structure. After Wang Sheng-Wen photographed it from different angles, he rotated and collaged the images to create an entirely new image. The work itself can be viewed from different angles, from which one can see the changing appearance and style of the building. The building in the picture is like a flying object floating in space, full of rotational dynamics. By creating such deformations, Wang explores the possibilities in the changing appearance of buildings designed by contemporary architects.
