Somewhere in Time

The artist Tsai Yi-Ting often uses small objects to construct uniquely interesting installations. Her Somewhere in Time is a projection installation using model cars. She placed a model car on a conveyor belt that would continue to run, and a small projector was installed inside the car. The projector then projects the blurry scenery from the windshield onto the screen in front, as if it were the continually moving scenery as seen through the windshield. Like many people, Tsai went back and forth to many different places while she was growing up, but she often felt like the car was staying in place, while the surroundings were simply looping around. Using this experience as a starting point, and by connecting her feelings with various objects, she shows that the loneliness of the self and the vague vision of the future are always on a different side in life’s journey.
