作品賞析
This seemingly familiar scene might not be as magnificent as a grand view of mountains and rivers, but it does calm us down. The artist, Lou Ying-Jia, uses a technique similar to printmaking to produce the seemingly random but detailed dotting. A Mountain of My Mind (Carp Lake) is not something that one sees outside a window, but a mental landscape created by the deliberate addition of time processed through memory. The faint inverted reflection makes the mountain appear like a floating island, surrounded by clouds and mist. The impression is full of the watery vapor of Taiwan’s mountains. On close view, there is a faint line running longitudinally in the center, dividing the mountain into two. It turns out that this painting comprises two views of the mountain from different sides, as if it were putting together different pieces of one’s memory of the mountain. Whether one roams through the landscape or stands outside the frame searching for one’s memory of it, Lou Ying-Jia hopes that viewers can find their own bearings in the scenery or find their ideal positions in the real world.
