Keng Chieh-Sheng’s artistic creations focus on the issues of discipline and repression faced by the modern working class. In Fit In Series IV, he sculpted wooden office workers in suits and placed them in seated positions on acrylic fan-shaped platforms. The wooden figures are posed as if they are eating a box lunch, but there is nothing in their hands, and the platforms flash red once per second. Keng Chieh-Sheng believes that time is a manmade social rule, and everyone is limited by it. He uses fan-shaped platforms to express slices of time as they pass; food represents the office workers’ lunch break. Keng Chieh-Sheng deliberately sculpted the figures to be of similar size and appearance, and gave them English names that often appear in office culture: George and Maggie. Thus, George and Maggie represent everyone who become gradually assimilated and disciplined within society.
