Wang Yi-Ting’s artworks include painting, installation art, video art, composite media, etc. By using the characteristics of different media, she explores the essence of life. Her “Imagining Pine” series is an extension of her installation, Disembodied Posture, which shows a slowly withering pine tree that will eventually face death. However, the idea of the withering pine at different stages has caused the artist to think, “Is death a point in time? Or a period of time? How does one define death?” and other questions, and she transfers these questions to a graphic composition. Wang uses a technical pen to depict dense, lush pine needles, which she uses as a contrast against the withered pine of the installation, in an attempt to simultaneously present opposite ideas such as life and death, extension and termination, growth and withering, and existence and disappearance as she explores the topic of the philosophy of life.
