作品賞析
The artist, Liu Cheng-Hsiang, used to grow filamentous fungi in a laboratory in the UK in order to study these organisms and their various forms. He found that the cell division and growth, whether fungal or animal, follow the rules of fractal geometry, and that life seems to have a predictable pattern. On the small scale, as in snowflakes or blood vessels, or on the large, even universal scale, nature is full of fractals. This realization also opened up his imagination. If computer algorithms are used to simulate fractals and nature, it may be possible to reproduce a world that is basically the same as the present world. With his background in architecture and robotics, Liu uses programming languages instead of brushes to let paintings return to their original points and lines, just like cells that carry DNA, which can follow the gene sequence to develop into an entire living body. The azure blue world in the “Genesis | Cosmos of Thoughts” series is like the one at the beginning of life. Machines and artists become co-creators, allowing hundreds of billions of pixels of ink to accumulate into a perceptual universe in accordance with rationality.
