Morskie Oko

Morskie Oko shows a mountain lake in the interior of Poland, a scene that impressed the artist, Chu Yun-Rung, when she traveled there. There are two different shades of blue on the lake surface; the dark part is the shadow of the surrounding mountains, and the light part the sky’s reflection. We can imagine that the day is so bright and the lake so clear that the surrounding scenery can be clearly reflected in it. Where the trees in the foreground have become clearer due to the sunlight, Chu outlines them with brighter color. The scene as a whole is composed only of two colors, blue for the sky and lake, green for the trees and mountains. Through simple, concise expression of colors, the artist has condensed the calm and tranquility she felt at this scene into an eternal moment.
