作品賞析
Leaves float quietly on the stream, and the water surface reflects the sky and the silhouettes of trees. The sunlight passes through the treetops and throws dappled waves of light and shadow on the still water surface. Signs of autumn have softly fallen on the water. This poetic work, Fallen Leaves of Early Autumn, is the artist Liu Wei-tsen’s tribute to light and shadow. What he wanted to capture was not the joy of sunlight on the water, but the sudden emergence of a numinous, rippled light through inverted images. The tranquil water surface changes its appearance at any time as the light moves and changes. One might want to capture the beauty of a moment, but discover that such beauty in everything is fleeting. Even as one’s state of mind changes, the light and shadow can change their tone and expression. Therefore, the artist has repeatedly recorded the light and shadow changes at dawn and at dusk, through the cycle of the four seasons, and their relationship with inverted reflections. Through his explorations, he has come to understand “impermanence,” so he concentrates on capturing the tranquility of moments before they vanish. Perhaps vanishing does not mean an ending, but the beginning of another cycle.
