In this work, 90% Angel—Roller Boogie, the artist Maria Barban makes the roller skates popular in the 1980s the protagonist. The skates in the painting are uncommonly large, and a disproportionate number of people in the lower part of the painting are pulling laces. Many people dressed in retro fashions are dancing on their roller skates, among silvery objects on the grass that turn out to be disco balls melted into irregular blobs. The cool neon colors produce an effect like that of a film negative, full of psychedelic feeling. For Barbon, these retro objects are like wormholes that bring people back in time. These antiques were the epoch-making products of their time and once seemed novel and futuristic. However, as soon as these objects that once represented the future are placed in the modern present, they are transformed into things of the past. Likewise, the objects we now regard as novel will, in the future, become things of the past. Through the reincarnation of objects, it is implied that in this rapidly changing era, our inner human nature will remain unchanged.
