LI Yau-Chu mostly uses scenery, isolated islands, mists and clouds as his creative themes. He combines personal imagination with landscapes to reconstruct a field between reality and fiction. Mysterious Island depicts the distant island from a horizontal viewing angle. The picture uses low-chroma, low-lightness, low-contrast effects to shape the silhouetted islands and smoky clouds, symbolizing the general phenomenon of pollution. LI Yau-Chu feels that Taiwan's land was subject to excessive human development, environmental pollution, and ecological damage. He observes how human beings, animals and nature are involved in the process of civilization.
