HSU Jui-Chien uses metal media as his main creative materials. He tries to transform hard and tough metals into cracked and fragile textures. In Fold, the flat iron plates are folded into a three-dimensional space. The surfaces are repeatedly heated and forged to shape the representation of different thicknesses. The molecules inside the iron plates undergo squeezing and shrinking changes. The thinner parts show the material change of cracking and warping, thus showing the extreme nature of the medium to be both tough and fragile. HSU Jui-Chien integrates physical activities into the medium, eliminating the material differences. His creative behavior leads to a dialogue between metal and the environment.
