CHEN Szu-Ying uses life as her source of inspiration for creation, expressing her inner stories and imaginations instinctively. The work, Vermont Studio Center Residency Project – Waiting, depicts her being scared after the experience of walking in the cemetery during abroad. With a charcoal pen, she uses black and white lines to create a strange-looking cemetery. This cemetery seems to be filled with thick fog, and in the background, there is a huge glowing moon. There are seven mysterious figures standing at the entrance of the cemetery, waiting for the next visitor to come in order to make up for the void within them. CHEN Szu-Ying uses a subjective spirit to construct a fictional world and express her interpretation and imagination of mythical creatures.
