SHIH Cheng-Ze uses sculpture as a medium for creation. He is skilled at using metal as the medium for expression and using the plasticity of metal. The inspiration for the work, Creature #201701, comes from the Chinese character "xun". He uses the character "xun", disassembling and deforming the shape first to give a more dynamically aesthetic expression. A once two-dimensional Chinese character is re-expressed in the spatial vocabulary of the sculpture. The original strokes are reduced and simplified, and transformed into a flowing, liquid-like shape that is vivid and imaginative. Through the use of sculpture, SHIH Cheng-Ze liberates the multiple meanings of text, reinterprets the original composition and meaning of the text, and gives a different taste to the Chinese characters.
