In HSIAO Po-Chun’s gouache painting, Supreme Wisdom, there is a flying apsara from the Dunhuang Buddhist mural. She is placed in front of a collection cabinet, and inside the cabinet, there are precious ancient Buddhist books, calligraphy, and other goods. There is a huge clock hanging in front of the cabinet and a camera on the table. Flying to modern times, the flying apsara is wearing a doctor's hat and glasses, holding a tablet in his hand, and next to him are the books that he had just read. These objects seem to infer that the flying apsara is a prominent figure and a very knowledgeable scholar. HSIAO Po-Chun combines the elements from the exotic Dunhuang murals and consumer pop culture in a humorous way, reflecting on the relationship between spiritual and material worship.
