WANG Lien-Cheng's work spans interactive devices and sound performances. A total of 23 automatic book-turning machines are set up in the work Reading Plan. When the viewers come close, these reading machines will start to turn the pages automatically; at the same time, the sound of children reading the books aloud will be heard in the space. The 23 machines represent the average number of students in a class in Taiwan’s elementary schools, and the work is a metaphor for the entire classroom. The content of the book is the Analects of Confucius that has influenced Asian cultural thoughts for thousands of years. Under the current national education, we can't decide what to read on our own, much like being controlled by a gigantic gear. WANG Lien-Cheng uses the national education as a source of reflection and ponders the restraint on ideas by the dogmatic classics, while trying to discuss the problems of localization, education, ideas and national machine.
