ZudweyI Ruvaniyao is a member of the Paiwan tribe in Mudan Village of Pingtung County. The artist has spent many years focusing on ceramic artwork dedicated to preserving traditional cultures of the Taiwanese aborigines. Settlement is a set of aboriginal ceramic jars bearing patterns formed into abstract facial expressions. The collection of jars represents the proud effort of modern Paiwan people in defending their culture. A settlement is only complete when its people build a common spiritual identity. ZudweyI Ruvaniyao used wood as the fuel to provide the ceramic jars with rustic, natural hues that help convey the essential links between traditional culture and the land represented by aboriginal art.
