LIN Bo-Liang uses documentary photography to express his sincere concern for the lands of Taiwan. Facing the Unknown Future shows two Tao people standing on the coast of Orchid Island with their backs against the camera. The vast expanse of the sea seems to have retreated into an unending silence. The man wears a short vest, thong, silver hat, and a traditional ceremonial blade. The woman, on the other hand, wears a short apron, dress, waist wrappings, and a woman’s hat. The traditional costumes represent Tao culture, spirit, and their intimate ties with the ocean. LIN Bo-Liang uses this work to convey the conflicts between the progress of civilization and preservation of traditional culture.
