Each Other

CHAO Yu’s Each Other shows a kneeling form against a wholly white background. The lower proportion of the body is a wholly black silhouette while the upper half seems to be an overly-compressed block of raw meat. The body is shown in the process of leaving its normal state. The mass of meat is starkly contrasted against the two-dimensional figure. The strange being depicted in the work is an emotional injector that fills a physical shell with emotions. The emotions then grow into a different lifeform sharing a mutualistic yet entwined and deformed shape with a strange life of its own. CHAO Yu uses the two different body forms as a means to narrate emotional ties and struggles that people experience within themselves.
