LUO Song-En’s Staring Disaster is a response to and reflection of disasters occurring around the world. War and manmade disasters have reduced a once vibrant city into a pile of rubble, creating a devastated landscape that makes people seem extremely small and fragile. An area depicted with grid-shaped lines at the center of the composition symbolizes city plazas of Europe. A memorial stele titled The Eternal Devotee is placed in the middle as a metaphor for helplessness in the face of disaster. The sky depicted as a silvery foil bathes the composition in an aura of holy light. LUO Song-En stares at disasters to reflect upon issues of life and faith.
