作品賞析
CHAN Yung-Jen uses relationships as creative inspirations and focuses on complicated relationships between the body and self, self and society, individuals and groups, and between groups and the society. The Portrait about Kun is a sculptural work that reflects upon the island that she calls home. Kun is the ancient name of Taiwan. Porcelain earth, bricks, concrete, and steel reinforcements were used to create a bust of a human character. The porcelain earth symbolizes land, nature, and beauty, while bricks and steel reinforcements symbolize concrete residences seen everywhere in Taiwan. CHAN Yung-Jen uses these media as a metaphor for the development process through which Taiwan was created. The humanized bust was used to establish a relationship between the island and inner self.
