CHUANG Chih-Wei’s “Into the Shadow_2” is a work of his Reincarnation series that attempts to investigate the relationship between artificial, non-natural, and natural entities. Mechanical motor traction was used to generate minute yet rhythmic movements of the plant in the work like a puppet. The mechanical device therefore imparts an organic motion upon the plant, while the projection of artificial lighting generates a beauteous and elegant variation of light and shadow. However, the plant began to wilt as time passed, gently yet sorrowfully unleashing the sad truth that lurked behind the scenes. CHUANG Chih-Wei thereby compares technology to plants and speaks out about the cruel truth behind the veneer of beauty. The work is also a reflection about the industrial age and highlights the conflicts and contradictions between artificiality and nature.
