ZHANG Xu-Zhan’s on-site and live-generated animation installation “Animation Daily: No.20 – ChiFeng Hardware Firms” recreates the images of the vibrant industries along ChiFeng street. Old businesses hidden within the streets and lanes are converted into animated pictures, including a used part being polished, hardware tools dropping onto the work floor, and vehicle processing that give off noise like tooth brushing. These interesting noises and the furling and unfurling of shading canvases are just some of the elements that ZHANG Xu-Zhan acquire through his study of ChiFeng street. These elements were then complemented with sound and displayed together on five screens at once, recreating a scene of prosperity of ChiFeng as the metalworking street and a symphony of nostalgia for the industrial lane.
