TING Chaong-Wen focuses on spatial dialogs, providing works of different forms with different materials to interpret history from personal experiences and transform his works into part of the historical narrative. “Primal Form” was inspired by archaeological works of ancient culture and uses the artistic material as a medium to project his imaginations. Art medium and modern technology were combined to recreate the traditional techniques in ancient cultures. Traditional weave patterns and textures of stone-slab houses of the Atayal people were referenced and recreated to mimic stone textures, with the stone slabs and the fabrics each representing the division of labor amongst the male and female members of the tribe. This work represents another attempt of TING Chaong-Wen to explore the inner relationships between material and culture by placing two traditional symbols together.
