作品賞析
LEE Ming-Hsueh evaluates the ephemeral nature of sensuous experiences. Sugar Ring (Pink) presents a donut as the symbol of desire. The donut is expanded to immense sizes to hint at the infinite growth of desire and the hollowness it represents, deifying this mundane “object” which would then be viewed as an item of adulation. This perspective also includes the two-fold meaning of worship and religious halls. Donuts, which can be sickening if taken to the extreme form of sweetness, symbolize desire and indulgence. The English title, however, adopted Sugar Ring instead of Donut because the Ring serves as a symbol of oath and commitment, making the object enticing yet intimidating at the same time. LEE Ming-Hsueh uses food to reflect upon the common values imposed by the modern social contracts and the complex and convoluted features of desire.
