Siki Sufin is an Amis artist born in A'tolan and applies his handicraft towards the defense and proof of his native cultural values. The topics he concerns include the Takasago Volunteers, Taiwanese soldiers in the past time, and legends about the people of his tribe. Get Rid Of is a sculpture of a human figure with wings, symbolizing freedom from temporal and spatial restrictions to break free from the oppression of the times. The Edoulan tribe has a legend where a tribe member who dies overseas can pray to the ancestral spirits for a pair of wings so that his or her soul may return to the tribe of a new birth. This myth is the inspiration of Siki Sufin’s artwork. The texture and nature of the driftwood is preserved to create a sculpture that does not go too far into the details, highlighting the will through a primal and rough style and infusing the spirit of historical culture into the creation.
