CHAN Ho’s works are often based upon people and various observations. Status represents intricate inter-personal relationships and emotions. A man with his head leaning to one side is sitting on a chair in a twisted, unnatural posture. His eyes are staring ahead while wearing a look of displeasure. The background is generated using uniform brushstrokes and color tone with several conical spikes, while the character depicted in the composition was created using brushstrokes in an expressive style, with the four limbs deliberately expanded to highlight inner emotions. CHAN Ho uses an imaginative aesthetic vocabulary, brushstrokes and abstract color blocks in an attempt to represent inner or subconscious elements of human psychology.
