LIN Kuan-Yin’s work Bow No.1 is a series of works based upon bow ties. Elements that portray soft fabric textures are introduced to the cold and rigid stainless steel, with the rigid materials and soft forms creating a contrasting and conflicting visual portrayal. LIN Kuan-Yin uses sculpting techniques to create a formation of weaves, wrinkles, patterns, and other properties common to fabrics. The hollowed shapes and dynamic lines generate an intricate technical design of a craft. The pattern of circular dots and the sculpting materials incorporating both soft and rigid elements convey a feminine attention to detail and traits including both hardness and softness. LIN Kuan-Yin incorporates a naughty and light-hearted design to reverse our impression of stainless steel, generating the unique style of her sculptures.
