CHEN Wen-Chi’s Authenticity Temporal Memory: Kyoto 1-3 discusses the philosophical links between temporal, spatial, and memory elements in a photograph. A wooden box is used to contain and put together a specific arrangement of photographs, text, and type, creating a composition that appears to be a storage box for memory. The black and white photograph in the work shows the view of a driver from his cabin. The text records the emotions of the photographer at the moment of shooting. This black and white photograph was taken with a cellphone when CHEN Wen-Chi visited Kyoto. When presented in the form of a museum exhibit, the snapshot assumes a different-from-ordinary atmosphere and appears to be a valuable and historic object, with the original memories, time, and space becoming blurred and indistinct. CHEN Wen-Chi integrates textual and photographic installations to study the relationships between the truth and memories.
