CHUANG Da-Wei’s Strange Plants attempts to construct an imaginary setting. The black and white composition creates a dream-like space depicting a strange yet verdant plant with curly leaves. The menacing shadow it casts and a golden silhouette of a window complement each other. Seen looming by the window on the wall is a side profile of a face that symbolizes the unknown elements of dreams. CHUANG Da-Wei chanced upon this space while traveling, and this image re-appeared with his childhood memories in a dream as he slept at night. This panel print is an attempt to recreate the dream visions and serves as an exercise by which the artist could re-connect to his childhood memories.
