LIU Yun-Yi’s The Vanishing Portraits, Berlin I&II&III, Germany shows perspective photographs taken at different times which were then processed and re-assembled to display a portrait of the very few buildings that managed to withstand the test of time. The video shows an abandoned building under 3 different forms of lighting. After the Second World War, Germany was left with a large number of abandoned buildings that were then gradually rebuilt. LIU Yun-Yi used photographic artworks in order to create a narrative used for historical memorials, providing these sites with value for prospective restoration and encouraging people to remember their proud past from their near-forgotten urban memory.
