HOU Peng-Hui’s photographic work Hidden Dreams in City #6 is a surreal artwork that conveys his contemplations on urban and human lifestyles. The image shows an advanced city with modern looking buildings, street lighting, traffic signals, and clean streets that help accentuate technology development and civilization. However, not a single soul is in sight. Interestingly, a giraffe has somehow managed to wander into this urban jungle. HOU Peng-Hui believes that cities are an amalgamation of human desires and an Eden where human dreams were given physical form. The animal wandering about the city in the middle of the night, on the other hand, represents the isolation and unreal experiences of people within the city.
