CHEN Po-I’s OutLook (Morakot, Nansha-lu) is a series of photographs that record the destruction wrought by the Typhoon Morakot on August 8th 2009. The scenery of devastation outside the window is connected to the indoor scene with wall stains left behind by mudslides, both of which testify to the destructive powers of nature. CHEN Po-I surveyed the sites of the disaster at Taihe, Laiji in Chiayi as well as Liugui in Kaohsiung, and created these documentary shots that resemble a still-life study as a silent narrative of this catastrophic trauma experienced by the entire nation.
